The Boulder Institute for Psychotherapy and Research (BIPR)
BIPR was founded in 1999 by a group of experienced and respected mental health professionals to promote the healthy psychological development of children, adults and the community by providing affordable mental health services, community education, professional training, consultation and research to the Boulder County community. Basing its approach on the brain research of the last twenty years, BIPR’s primary focus is to address the enduring consequences of trauma, neglect and biologically based conditions on individuals and the larger community. The organization received its 501(C)(3) status in 2000. Since its inception, BIPR has provided low or reduced fee mental health services, including assessment, testing, and consultation, to a diverse population of adults, children, adolescents and families in the context of its Intern and Pre/Post Doctoral Training Programs.
Programs
Training Program
The Training Program provides high quality clinical training to new mental health practitioners and provides low-fee services to under-served and under-privileged children, adolescents, adults, and families. Training consists of a year-long course in attachment and neurobiologically informed psychodynamic psychotherapy, a clinical issues seminar, individual supervision, mentoring, and opportunities to attend Front Porch Lectures, and special training seminars.
Education Program: Front Porch Lecture Series
This series provides professional training to mental health clinicians. It is BIPR’s goal to help clinicians integrate cutting-edge neurobiological findings and empirically based clinical techniques into their practice producing a highly productive, knowledgeable therapeutic community. Lectures are offered at reduced prices for agency and non-profit therapists who often provide frontline services to our community’s most severely disturbed residents without the benefit of training on the most recent developments in the field.
Education Program: Community Public Education Series
The Community Public Education series provides a free public forum for education and discussion of mental health issues. This enables us to bring new knowledge of the brain to promote social and emotional health in the community.
Therapeutic Preschool Program/Zero to Five Services
BIPR currently partners with Boulder Day Nursery and the Connections Classroom of First Presbyterian Preschool to provide Boulder Therapeutic Preschool services. The mission of the Therapeutic Preschool is to provide early intervention to children aged two and a half-five to promote optimal emotional health, brain development, and family functioning to enable these children to grow to be strong, contributing members of our society. It is our goal to have a free-standing preschool classroom that will treat at-risk children who have challenging behaviors or have been expelled from other preschool programs. All donations targeted for the Boulder Therapeutic Preschool are eligible for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Tax Credit (50% Income Tax Credit).
The Zero-to-Five Services clinic offers developmental, cognitive, and attachment based assessments for children from infancy to five years of age. Parent education groups, parent consultation, classroom support, individual child therapy, family therapy, Preschool teacher training, and Preschool teacher consultation are offered through this program.
BIPR is a 501(c)(3) organization.
